SOPHIE CHARALAMBOUS Visual Artist ~ Theatre Design
Studied Painting (BA Hons) and later
Theatre Design at the Motley Theatre Design Course.
Set and Costume Designs include:
“Charlie and Lola”,(The Polka Children’s Theatre and now touring) "Debris" by Dennis Kelly (BAC and Touring), "Whose Afraid of the Big Bad Book", adapted by Jonathan Lloyd (Soho Theatre and touring), "The Pied Piper"(Opera North Education Touring), "Orange" by Alan Harris (Chapter Arts Centre) and “Giselle” for the Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre Company.
Over the last three years she has also designed many productions for the British
American Drama Academy.
From 2003~2007 she co-ran “The Haringey Children’s Musical Theatre Company” writing and performing new musical theatre with local children in Tottenham.
She has worked with the Soho Theatre; designing their Under 11's Playwriting
Festival and also with Greenwich & Lewisham Young People’s Theatre working on a site specific piece of new writing in a Shopping Centre.
In 2008 she co designed “Welcoming the World”, the first arts event of the 2012 Olympics in East London.
She has worked on numerous community arts projects including creating work
for The Thames Festival night-time carnival and The Royal Festival Hall and has
worked as Artist in Residence in several schools.
She has run many workshops for young people and adults in Art and Design and now teaches drawing techniques on the Motley Theatre Design Course.
As well as working collaboratively she continues to create and exhibit her own
Artwork. She is currently completing “The Drawing Year” at the Prince’s Drawing School.
She lives on a narrow boat in Kings Cross.
