MELLOW
Helen Hunt and Alvaro Petritoli
6 to 28 October
Working with metallic gold, bronze, and copper tones, textural depth and rich colours combine in Hunt’s exquisitely wrought organic forms. Currently exploring the process of decay and its transfiguring effects, the corrosion of metal and the withering of leaves are transformed into works of delicate richness, lustrous and compelling.
Originally from Italy, where he studied Historical Studies in Naples before coming to London to take a degree in Fine Art at St Martins, Petritoli’s work reflects his fascination with the strata of history, which creates a resonance of time and place in his paintings. Combining fragments of photo transfers, rust, soluble ink washed away with bleach and hand drawn text, his images are created from detailed layers, creating a network of recurring elements which stimulate the sense memories, evoking scents and sounds and drawing the viewer into their multi layered complexity.
