Digital prints, film and paintings by Overlap - Michael Denton and Anna McCrickard
Originally trained as fine artists, the duo behind Overlap work in many different arenas, from recently commissioned superscale visuals for the largest indoor screen in the world at Manchester International Festival’s Industrial Resolution (“aesthetically intriguing and jaw-dropping in its scale and intensity” Manchester Evening News), to miniature art videotones for mobile phones, paintings and digital prints. Their electronic work has been screened at the NFT, the Tate, in international film festivals and seen by thousands around the world through a high profile VJing schedule.
Overlap’s electronic imagery is fabricated from many different sources. These are distilled and collaged into prints and animations to create ethereal landscapes. As well as the digital prints, a series of limited edition DVDs will accompany the work.
The paintings are made up of counterflowing picture planes. There are no brushes used in these richly dynamic aerial view landscapes, which explore the relationship of scale between the fragment and the whole.
