Waiting for Another Pebble

Dan Williams

5 to 20 July 2008

Please join us on Saturday 5th July between 12 and 2pm to meet the artist.

Waiting for Another Pebble’ is Williams’ third solo show, continuing his exploration of contemporary British landscape and featuring the East Sussex coast.

Dan Williams’ particular skill is in capturing, and perfectly expressing, a fleeting moment, finding the momentous in the miniscule. His paintings are imbued with a timeless Englishness, epitomised by life on the south coast: seaside holidays, unpredictable weather, fishing, walking the dog, promenading. Little stories about everything and nothing.

Using a variety of media, including: gouache, acrylic ink and watercolour to create rhythms, texture and depth, the immediacy of the work owes much to the fact that Williams’ paintings are predominantly executed on the spot. His imagery contains a natural sense of narrative and place, capturing moments, early or late in the day, when light, colour and the elements are at their most shifting and transitory. There is an urgency in their making, being at once immediate and bold, yet hesitant and fragile.
